This is a tutorial for how to make an inexpensive Curse Dragon Piñata for an Onward birthday party. What party is complete without a piñata? This pinata is simple and so fun when it’s completed. We used it at the end of our Onward party quest. However, you can use it for any party that you must battle an evil bad guy at the end. We used wizard staffs to smack the curse dragon pinata. There is a tutorial for how to make the wizard staffs. They make a fun addition to this party.
Depending on the size of your box, here are the supplies you’ll need.
- 4 to 6 sheets of colored tissue paper
- Crepe paper
- thick cardboard rectangle
- glue stick
- Rope
- Scissors
- Packing tape
- Candy
The total cost will depend on how much candy you buy and what supplies you already have. I had everything but the candy, so it was a very cheap piñata for me to make. It’s all about the fringe look when you cut the colored tissue. As long as you have that, your strips of glued paper don’t have to be perfect.
Tissue paper is usually around 1$ per 6 sheets. If you’re getting 2 different colors, plus crepe paper, that total is 3$. A roll of tape is around 2$, and a glue stick is .50 cents. You can find boxes anywhere for free. A rope will be 3$-5$.
That would bring the total to 8.50$-10.50$ for the box with a rope.
At most party supply stores, a cheap piñata would cost 12-15$ without a rope.
It’s just little savings like this that add up when you’re planning a big party.
